Jews' Gate Lentisc
Pistacia lentiscus
Lentisc Jews' Gate
A hardy lentisc at Jews' Gate, gateway to the Rock's southern cliffs.
Story & Significance
Jews' Gate overlooks one of Europe's great bird-migration bottlenecks. Each spring and autumn, thousands of raptors and storks stream overhead. Scrub plants like this lentisc give cover and berries to the smaller migrants — warblers and flycatchers — resting before the crossing to Africa.
